Sports hall Mělník

Building of the Year of the Central Bohemian Region 2017 - Public Award, Governor's Award
2015

The extension of the gymnasium to the Jan Palach Grammar School in Mělník has a chance to become the first zero-energy public building in the Czech Republic. In addition to teaching students, it also serves sports clubs such as futsal, handball, basketball and others. It also includes a climbing wall. Thanks to the tiered grandstand, the hall can also accommodate spectators during sports matches. The relatively large building, located on a steep slope above the gymnasium, is softened and visually reduced by the use of rounded corners and the anthracite colour of the outer shell. The decorative LED lighting in the windows and light panels is variable in colour depending on what activity (sport) is taking place in the building.
