The building serves as a depository for the East Bohemian Museum in Pardubice. There will be areas for receiving finds and inheritance, where these items will go through further quarantine, decontamination, treatment and then be stored in individual rooms of the depository according to type. The building itself is extremely energy efficient. Materials are treated in the same way - almost 1,000 tonnes of recycled concrete are used, the walls are made of unfired brick and clay plaster, which help maintain the indoor climate. The new depository building stands on the site of the former dining room and respects the pavilion character and is integrated into the existing set of buildings, and although it is only two-storey, it maintains the height level and the cycle of the surrounding buildings. It is accessible by road from the north along the west and east facades. From the south there are a covered loading ramp and entrances to the building. The ramp adjoins the neighboring buildings and together they create a kind of yard, where the loading and unloading of exhibits will take place in cover and will not negatively affect the surroundings with excessive noise. At the same time, this part will be visually shielded. Architectural solution - composition of shape solution, material and color solution. A simple block lined with corten sheet metal with an almost square floor plan looks like a giant forgotten patina-marked jewelry box. On three sides, the building is free of any openings and from the dominant points of view, it looks invincible. The existing connecting corridor between the pavilions will be transformed by demolishing the walls and windows into a subtle park colonnade smoothly white plastered. The road will continue to serve for movement between the pavilions covered from the rain, but at the same time it will open the vistas to the garden and will not act as an impenetrable barrier. From the eastern side of the new depository pavilion, the footbridge will be completed in the form of a sharply bent crankcase, the sharp point of which will levitate above the driveway. Under the new roof, there will be leveling ramps, allowing cars to reach the loading ramp and the library depot (adjacent pavilion). The building is extremely energy efficient. It has modern technologies such as recuperation and a heat pump located on an extensive green roof. The structure itself is a reinforced concrete skeleton with a panel ceiling on composite steel-concrete beams. The envelope then consists of a cor-ten facade, which is a type of corrosion-resistant steel alloy, a ventilated gap, a layer of mineral thermal insulation 300 mm thick, fired brick interwoven with unfired brick with clay plaster. The combination of these bricks brings a large storage capacity of heat and humidity and thus can help reduce temperature and humidity fluctuations. Environmentally friendly and recycled materials - The main materials represented in the largest amount are recycled concrete and unfired brick. Recycled concrete is poured in 800 mm thick under the whole building in order to increase the load-bearing capacity of the foundation slab. Aggregates are commonly used, instead of recycled material from another demolished building was used, we saved the extraction of aggregate and its transport. Approximately 1,000 tons of recycled material was used. Unfired brick - forms the inner layer of the perimeter shell. The brick itself is basically made of mud or clay with an admixture of sand. It is therefore very simple as a material and material from the construction site can also be used on it. It doesn't have to be burned or modified in any way. It is only air-dried for about 50 hours. As a result, the energy required to produce it is minimal, unlike conventional brick, which must be burned. In the case of our project, it is about 350 tons of material. The same case will be the plaster, which is also clay only with the difference that it is mixed in place and dries to the brick. During the project, we tried to design an object that is economical not only operationally, but also from environmentally friendly materials, which are either recycled materials or well recyclable. It is important to design buildings that are economical not only in operation, but also think about the construction itself, materials and technologies during it, as well as other life stages of the building, including the final one.
